The UAE’s first stand-alone Arbitration Law entered into force in June 2018. Naturally, it brought with it many changes to the previously applicable arbitration provisions.
The increased sophistication of arbitration proceedings necessitates a more robust approach in preparing and drafting an arbitration strategy. Our clients are walked through all of our pre-action work, including drawing up witnesses’ statements in support of the claim, and they inform our opinion with their own business perspective.
At The Firm, our deep understanding of the region means we are also regularly consulted by international practitioners for advice on UAE arbitration law matters including jurisdiction challenges, the arbitrability of certain disputes, as well as the immunity of arbitrators.
The Firm represents clients in both Arabic and English proceedings in arbitration disputes under centres including the ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA and the ADCCAC. Significantly, our lawyers can handle disputes both during arbitration and later at enforcement before UAE Courts. This means we need less time to build our case, having become familiar with the dispute during the arbitration proceedings, which means reduced fees for the client.
Our lawyers have acted for clients in arbitrations involving the following sectors: construction; real estate; oil and gas; banking; interior design; and investor disputes.
